What happens in the landscape beyond the edge of human structure, where the wild and the controlled collide? In this place, we are removed from the order of the urban, but we are not yet surrounded by the wilderness. This place in-between is The Buffer Zone.
The Buffer Zone is just beyond the ever-expanding sprawl of the Salt River Valley. Dominance, frustration, sexuality, and aggression are all human instincts that are acted out in these places. The Buffer Zone is not static; as the valley grows this place gets pushed further into the Sonoran Desert, always one step beyond the housing, strip malls, and golf courses. I am interested in the marks left on these places, which depict a nature that we are part of.
