About Haruna Miyagawa-Fukui

Raised mostly in Tokyo while spending her adolescent years in East Tennessee, peppered with the suburban life of the Quaker State, she feels at home transgressing the boundary of busy city life and tranquil rural life. Her Interests lie in the interface of what seem antithetical as the fault line is often the ground for innovation. She is currently working towards her Ph.D. in Sociology at School of Social and Family Dynamics at Arizona State University. Coming from Tokyo, a very densely populated and excessively developed mega city that is still extending toward the bay, the open space of greater Phoenix is a pure luxury--the luxury often taken for granted. Young and vibrant mean fearless but fragile. Hear the voice of the old, the history, and the experience. Sustainability comes from not only connecting ourselves to the future but also to the past. I see my work as a seed which I nurture for the next generation as much as the predecessors have cherished theirs for us. Listening is the foundation of understanding.
