Title: A town steeped in solar- Solana solar field (280MW)
Description: In 2010, the town of Gila Bend adopted the Solar Field Overlay Zone (SFOZ) ordinance to facilitate the establishment of solar projects in the region. This ordinance expedites the processing of solar projects getting approval within 2-3 months as opposed to the usual two years and more processing time.

Title: From agriculture to solar
Description: Water consumption is a major sustainability issue for energy production systems. The 2006 report to the Congress on the Interdependency of Energy and Water estimated that "a coal fired plant uses 110 to 300 gallons per megawatt hour; a nuclear plant uses between 500 and 1100 gallons/MWh; and a solar parabolic trough plant uses 760 -920 gallons/MWh".

Title: Another type of border | Solana solar project
Description: The sheer scale of the Solna solar project is astounding yet this development is one in many. According to Greentech solar (April 2012), there are at least another 17 projects waiting for approval in the Gila Bend region. The town is now looking for opportunities to export its energy production to California; a plan that requires investing into new infrastructure such as transmission lines.
